You left several strands
of hair
aaascattered across my
sheets

you left your yellow
toothbrush
aaaon the top shelf
of my bathroom cabinet

you left your white lacy
G-string
aaain the pocket of my
bathrobe

you left your pink lipgloss
with the glitter
aaaon my dressing table

you left my alarm clock
aaaset at 6:45 a.m.

you left your new novel

we both left so much
aaaunsaid

but most of all
aaayou left your scent
buried deep inside my
pillow
aaa& even though it's been
six nights now & i've changed
the bed linen
aaarearranged the bathroom
cabinet & the dressing table -
placed your book in my bookcase
aaathrown out your G-string
aaayour lipgloss
& your yellow toothbrush

your scent is making my eyes
watery
aaa& still i can't escape you.

Mark Seymour and the Melbourne Workers' Theatre are working up a new show on building workers. Mark has combined a couple of my poems 'Overtime' and 'The Violence of Work' and has produced a demo of a new song 'Monday to Friday'. I'll keep you posted
